Rangabali Island, a remote isolated island of Patuakhali, which is surrounded by rivers on three sides and the Bay of Bengal on the other has been connected with the national grid line through submarine cable. As a result, the whole island is now illuminated by electric light. According to Patuakhali Palli Bidyut Samiti, the task was not easy at all. A total of Tk 230 crore has been spent on getting electricity to the island through a 10 km long submarine cable through the river. Through this, about two lakh people from 65 villages of six unions of Rangabali Upazila have been connected to the national grid. They believe that the advent of electricity will bring about a radical change in their quality of life as well as a socio-economic development. It is to be mentioned that the power connection activities were officially started in Rangabali in September last year. At the end of the connection work, the lights were switched on experimentally in the customer's house on 12th September. The Upazila has already come under 100% electrification by providing electricity to  all households.
